On May 13, 2012, the Hermes Young Professionals Initiative's "Team Elpida" participated in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure 5K Walk in Philadelphia.  The Team was able to raise $600 to benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation and help in the fight against breast cancer.  The purpose of the Hermes Young Professionals Initiative, or "HYPI", is to help young Greek Americans reach success in their careers by providing them with a forum to connect and learn from seasoned Greek-American leaders in a wide variety of professions.  However, by organizing "Team Elpida" to participate in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, HYPI has also shown that it is dedicated to helping out the community as a whole.

“It is very important to stay positive and have hope during these difficult times because they say that positive energy helps the sick cope with their therapy. It’s the way we handle each hardship that makes us who we are. Winston Churchill once said that attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference. Remember, never let any obstacle in life set you back, instead learn and progress forward,” says Aphrodite Kotrotsios, Executive Director and Co-Founder of HYPI.

"Elpida" in Greek means "hope," and hope is just what we need in order to beat cancer.  Cancer has unfortunately affected the lives of so many people.  By participating in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, HYPI is helping to spread the hope that we can one day cure this disease.
