Philadelphia, PA — AHEPA Hercules Spartan Chapter 26 of Greater Philadelphia announced a $4,000 donation in support of thalassemia research, to be directed to the **Division of Neonatal–Perinatal Medicine, Department of Pediatrics at the Penn State College of Medicine****, under the auspices of Dr. Zissis Chroneos, Professor at the University.
The contribution will support ongoing research efforts through the institution’s Thalassemia Project, advancing critical medical work that impacts individuals and families, particularly those of Mediterranean descent.
“This contribution will help continue the great work of helping others,” said Paul Kotrotsios, President of AHEPA Hercules Spartan Chapter 26. He encouraged members, friends, and supporters to join in advancing this important cause and noted that the Chapter plans to host a future fundraising initiative to further expand support for thalassemia research.
The announcement coincides with preparations for AHEPA Chapter 26’s 100th Anniversary Celebration, to be held on Sunday, January 25, 2026, at the Arts Ballroom in Philadelphia, marking a century of service to the Hellenic community of Greater Philadelphia.
The day will begin with a Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral of Saint George, followed by anniversary festivities honoring AHEPA’s enduring commitment to philanthropy, education, civic responsibility, and family.
The milestone celebration will be attended by His Eminence Metropolitan Apostolos of the Metropolis of New Jersey, Chris Kaitson, Supreme President of AHEPA, and Basil Mossaidis, Executive Director of AHEPA and former District Governor of Pennsylvania. Also expected to attend are senior officials of the AHEPA Supreme Lodge, including Tim Vlassopoulos, District Governor of Pennsylvania, as well as presidents of local chapters from across the region.
Additionally, George Horiates, Past Supreme President of AHEPA and lead organizer of the upcoming AHEPA Supreme Convention to be held in Philadelphia in July 2026, has confirmed his support and participation in the centennial celebration.
