The Daughters of Penelope Zoe Cavalaris Outstanding Female Athlete Award, established by Past Grand President Zoe Lucas Cavalaris (1918-1985), honors a young woman of the Daughters of Penelope Family who has achieved as an amateur the highest athletic accomplishments in high school and/or undergraduate and graduate collegiate athletics; and has maintained a high sense of scholarship, community and civic achievement.
The Daughters of Penelope is proud to announce high school student Alexis Hoyer, of Coopersburg, PA, as the 2025 Zoe Cavalaris Outstanding Female High School Athlete Award recipient.
Alexis graduated 4.0 GPA from Southern Lehigh High School. She was part of the National Honors Society and Principal’s List, was a Colonial League Academic All Star, and recipient of the 2024 Bill Reese Memorial Scholarship awarded to a player for her sportsmanship, leadership, GPA, and extracurricular activities.
Alexis was President of Mini-THON at her high school which raises money for pediatric cancer, a member of Pink Out Fundraisers which raises funds for breast cancer, a member of Sassy Massey which helps raise funds to purchase Christmas gifts for children in hospitals, and a member of Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Bethlehem, PA.

Alexis was selected as Lehigh Valley Orthopedic Institution’s “Female Athlete of the Year 2024-2025” and was awarded a $10,000 scholarship for excellence in athletics, academics, and community service.
Alexis is committed to Rowan University in the Fall where she was recruited to play for the university’s volleyball team. Alexis plans to major in athletic training with a minor in education. Alexis’ volleyball achievements, academic record, leadership qualities, and her volunteer work in the community make her an outstanding female athlete!
The Daughters of Penelope is proud to announce college student Alana Pytel, of Marlboro, NJ, as the 2025 Zoe Cavalaris Outstanding Female Collegiate Athlete Award recipient.
Alana is a founding member of Maids of Athena Theodora Chapter No. 292 and received the MOA Archbishop Demetrios Scholarship Award in 2024.
Alana was also on the National Honors Society at Marlboro High School, Student of the Month, Dean’s List, a Gold Star Award Recipient at Brookdale Community College May 2025, All Region Academic Honors, and All Conference Academic Team Honors.
