Local Events in Support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month to Benefit Living Beyond Breast Cancer

Local Events in Support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month to Benefit Living Beyond Breast Cancer

Haverford, Pa., Sept. 29, 2009 — In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a variety of groups in the Philadelphia area are showing their support of women with breast cancer this October by organizing fundraisers ranging from shopping events to sporting tournaments to benefit the Haverford-based nonprofit organization Living Beyond Breast Cancer (LBBC).

"We are honored to have the steadfast support of our regional constituency, which continues to raise funds and awareness for women affected by breast cancer,” said Jean Sachs, MSS, MLSP, chief executive officer of LBBC. "Proceeds of these events will benefit LBBC's education and support programs and help our mission of empowering all women affected by breast cancer to live as long as possible with the best quality of life.”

Events are open to the public. Supporters can shop, exercise and learn more about women's health issues while supporting the cause. Among the highlights:

-- Put on your stilettos and get ready for a night out with the girls! On Wed., Oct. 7, Julie's Bottega in Bala Cynwyd will host a Girl's Night Out shopping event to benefit LBBC. The event will start at 5 p.m. and all shoppers will receive a 10 percent discount off their purchases. An additional 10 percent of every purchase will benefit LBBC's education and support programs. Julie's Bottega is located at 156 Montgomery Ave. in Bala Cynwyd.

-- Delphine Gallery will host an evening with Antiques Roadshow Jewelry expert, Gloria Lieberman and the work of renown local artist Sara Steele on Thu., Oct. 15 from 6 – 8 p.m. at The Chestnut Hill Hotel. A 20 percent discount will be offered to attendees and 20 percent of the proceeds will be donated to LBBC throughout the month of October. The Chestnut Hill Hotel is located at 8229 Germantown Ave. in Philadelphia.

-- Paddle tennis players will rally up the points for LBBC on Mon., Oct. 19, at the 2009 Paddle Rally at Aronimink Tennis Center in Newtown Square. Club players will enjoy a light breakfast and a presentation by Dr. Kara M. Nakisbendi, who will discuss nutrition and lifestyle approaches to reducing cancer risk as well as maintaining overall well-being. The Aronimink Tennis Center is located at 3600 Saint David's Road in Newtown Square. Donations to LBBC are encouraged and sponsorship opportunities are available.

-- The Container Store will host "Wrap Up Breast Cancer Awareness Month” on Oct. 29 at their Cherry Hill, N.J. location. Show your support for LBBC and learn tips and tricks for creating beautifully wrapped gifts for the holidays. Admission is just $30 and includes wine and light hors d'oeuvres. All proceeds from the admission fees benefit LBBC. The event will take place from 6 – 9 p.m. at the Cherry Hill Mall location, 2000 Route 38, Cherry Hill, N.J.
