Joe Sestak Shares Vision for Pennsylvania's Next Generation at Chester Church

Joe Sestak Shares Vision for Pennsylvania's Next Generation at Chester Church

Visits with Congregation at Macedonia SDA Church; Calls for More Leadership in Government

MEDIA, PA - In his continuing effort to address important issues with congregations at various places of worship throughout Pennsylvania, Democratic U.S. Senate candidate, Congressman Joe Sestak in Chester at Macedonia Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Hundreds of congregants attended the services, where Joe discussed the important issues facing Pennsylvania before taking questions.

"I'm just so blessed to join your congregation," Joe said. "As I travel throughout Pennsylvania's 67 counties, and meet congregations of all faiths, I am inspired by the number of people dedicated to giving back through community service. Many of you prove that real change starts with our local leaders -- elected or otherwise -- who believe as I do that everyone deserves an opportunity to succeed based on one's God-given talents. As the son of a schoolteacher and Navy captain, who immigrated here with his father, I've seen what happens when families have a chance to pass on a better life to the next generation."

Joe was introduced by Blane Stoddart, the Director of Community Services and on the Board of the Church. The Macedonia SDA Church recently welcomed a new leader, Pastor George E. Jackson. The Church's previous Pastor, Alex Royes, also returned for services this weekend.

"A good public servant is like a church pastor in that both understand their duty to helping people in our communities." Joe said. "This is a time for leadership and I believe one's leadership can be judged by the size of the problems they take on. Without leadership for Pennsylvania's next generation, Washington will continue to put politics ahead of public service."

The Macedonia Church's mission, as stated on their website, is to strive "to be a caring Christian community - connected to one another in love, committed to the world in service - transforming lives one by one through the power of Christ's unconditional love." The Church provides services to the community, including a ministry to counsel young ladies in their personal and professional pursuits. Every year they also have a seasonal food distribution around Thanksgiving. And this December 19th, the Church will host a concert, featuring national recording artist Vicki Yohe.

Joe Sestak was elected to Congress in 2006 after a distinguished 31-year career in the United States Navy, and he is honored to represent the Southeastern Pennsylvania district where he was born and raised. During his Navy career, Joe attained the rank of 3-star Admiral, served in the White House as Director for Defense Policy on President Clinton's National Security Council, served in the Pentagon as Deputy Chief of Naval Operations, and led a series of operational commands at sea, culminating in command of the USS George Washington Aircraft Carrier Battle Group (30 ships, 100 aircraft, and 15,000 sailors/marines/ aviators/SEALs) during combat operations in Afghanistan and Iraq. In our nation's time of crisis in the immediate aftermath of 9/11, the Navy turned to Joe Sestak to serve as the first Director of "Deep Blue," the Navy anti-terrorism unit formed in response to the attacks. Joe is the highest-ranking former military officer ever elected to either branch of Congress. He graduated second in his class from the U.S. Naval Academy and holds a Master's in Public Administration and a PhD in Political Economy and Government from Harvard University. Joe lives in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, with his wife, Susan, and daughter, Alex, and proudly represents the 7th District, where his parents and six of his siblings still reside.
