Explore the undiscovered treasure among Tourists, the Abruzzo Region of Italy Explore the undiscovered treasure among Tourists, the Abruzzo Region of Italy, ?Where the Sun Meets the Sky? with Barbara Ann Zippi, President of ARTEMIS Productions. And, let's not forget the trip also includs A taste of Tuscany, Florence, Parma, Perugina and the jewel of Europe, Venice.
Zippi has arranged with her Italian relatives, some very special treats, not part of any other organized tour. While in Abruzzo, we will make our home base in the authentic Italian village of Loreto Aprutino, nestled high above the Adriatic Sea where you will experience a breathtaking vista surrounded by the Grand Sasso Mountain Range, and be among a handful of Tourists in this hilltop town - the birthplace of my grandparents Lucia Nobilio and Guido Acciavatti. From the love of their hometown, they have kept contact with our Italian relatives and have allowed their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren the special privilege of knowing our roots first hand. We will stay in the restored Medieval Castle Chiola built in 800AD, nestled among the Grand Sasso Mountain range, overlooking the hillsides of olive groves in a town rich in history and meet with relatives who will welcome you with open arms.
From crafts to delectable foods this region offers crafts made from age-old traditions which live on in the old village and town centers. Workshops continue to use old materials and produce products that maintain their artistic and symbolic value in gold, pottery, copper, iron, wood and lace. Excellent wines made here include Montepulciano, Cerasuolo and Trebbiano. Award winning olive oils are found all over this region in addition to the famous traditional production of confetti (sugared almonds) and torroni (nougat). Making the finest pastas, Abruzzo, is also famous for mountain sheep cheeses, meats, and the finest fish dishes from the catches in the Adriatic Sea. This region, famous for shopping where Italians, not tourists, go for their gold jewelry and leather will complete the journey into this special region.
