The Hellenic Medical Society of New York is hosting its Sixty-Seventh Anniversary Celebration in December, 2003 in New York City. Dr. Constantine Papadakis, President of Drexel University will be honored at the Scholarship Tribute Gala Dinner/Dance on Saturday, December 6, 2003 at the Essex House, 160 Central Park South, New York. Distinguished Honorees include Dr. George L. Bakris, Professor of Medicine and Director of the Rush University Hypertension/Clinical Research Center who will lecture at the Scientific Symposium at the Harvard Club, 27 West 44th Street, New York on Friday, December 5, 2003 and Dr. Apostolos P. Tambakis, this year’s Esteemed Colleague and Past President.
Over fifteen Greek-American medical, college, and high school students will be the 2003 scholarship recipients!

The Hellenic Medical Society has a membership of over 1000 physicians throughout the greater New York area. It is a 5013 non-profit organization incorporated in 1936. Dr. George Papanicolaou, renowned for discovering the Pap test, is one of this society’s founders. Annual activities include continuing medical education programs, public education forums, community services, seminars abroad, equipment and supplies to Greece, Cyprus, Albania, and Serbia. Furthermore, the Hellenic Medical Society of New York fosters student exchange programs in Greece, sponsors medical scholarships and biomedical research grants.

The Hellenic Medical Society of New York spearheaded the establishment of the Federation of Hellenic Medical Societies of North America that encompasses over five thousand physicians. Official member societies include the Hellenic Medical Societies of New York, Boston/New England and Chicago/Midwest. Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., California, Toronto/Ontario, and Montreal/Quebec will be discussing the Federation Charter at their upcoming general assembly meetings.
